WHAT WE LEARN IN MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE

6th Grade Science (175 Minimum Weekly Minutes)

Earth Science

  • Understands the effect of the ecology of the Earth and their responsibility to protect it
  • Understands plate tectonics to explain important features of the Earth’s surface and major geologic events
  • Knows that topography is reshaped by weathering of rock and soil and by the transportation and deposition of sediment
  • Understands that heat moves in a predictable flow from warmer objects-to-cooler objects until all objects are at the same temperature
  • Understands that many phenomena on the Earth’s surface are affected by the transfer of heat energy through radiation and convection currents
  • Identifies how organisms in ecosystems exchange energy and nutrients among themselves and with the environment

Investigation and Experimentation

  • Hypothesizes, classifies, and interprets data found from investigation and discovery experiments
  • Draws conclusions using study information based on scientific information
  • Compares, analyzes, and synthesizes data results using metacognitive skills and scientific fact
  • Selects topic, problem, and hypothesis for a Science Fair project
